Meta is framing the race for superintelligence around individual power. In a July opinion piece, Mark Zuckerberg argued that advanced AI should help people create, learn, build businesses, and direct more of their own lives rather than remain concentrated inside institutions.
This is a strategic position, not a dated product roadmap. It contains no launch schedule, packaging, benchmark, or operating model. Its value is in showing where one industry giant wants the competitive line drawn.
Distribution is becoming part of the product claim
Frontier capability is only one layer. A personal system needs access to context, useful interfaces, hardware, memory, permissions, and enough trust to stay close to daily work.
Meta's consumer reach and device investments make that distribution argument credible as a direction. They do not prove that people will receive a controllable form of superintelligence or that the hardest governance questions are solved.
Personal power still depends on platform power
An assistant can feel personal while the provider controls the model, account, data policy, ranking, pricing, and available actions. The balance of power changes only when users can understand what the system knows, move their context, limit access, and choose where work runs.
Meta acknowledges different risk profiles, including tighter treatment for biological risk and a more open posture toward cyber use. Those distinctions show that wide distribution will not mean identical access to every capability.
Expect giants to compete on control
The industry is likely to sell more than intelligence scores. Companies will compete on who owns memory, where inference runs, which tools the assistant can operate, how portable context is, and what the user can inspect or revoke.
Companies choosing platforms today are also choosing how much control they will retain later. Stronger capabilities should not require rebuilding the operating system around one vendor.
